Why does my internet work on some devices but not others?
If one device can get online but another can’t, the good news is that your internet connection itself is probably working. The problem may be with the device that won’t connect.
Start with a few simple things.
First, check Wi-Fi on the device.
Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on and that the device is connected to the correct network. Sometimes a phone, tablet, or computer disconnects from Wi-Fi without you realizing it.
If you see several network names, choose the one you normally use at home.
Next, try turning Wi-Fi off and back on.
Wait a few seconds before turning it back on. Then give the device a moment to reconnect.
If that doesn’t work, restart the device. This can clear up temporary connection problems.
Still not working?
If you know your Wi-Fi password, you can try telling the device to “forget” the network and then connect to it again. Be sure you know the password before doing this.
You can also see whether other devices are having trouble. If nothing can connect, the problem may be with your modem, router, or internet service instead.
One helpful clue: If your device says it is connected to Wi-Fi but websites still won’t load, the Wi-Fi connection may be working while the internet connection is not.
